The majority of exhibitors go with the purpose of generating leads which they hope to turn into business. However many have not thought about the best way to generate, gather, track and follow-up the leads they get. This is one of the most important parts of exhibiting and if not done properly can ruin you exhibition.
Who's responsible? Company H left the business cards they had gathered on the stand for a member of staff to collect and take back to the office. Everyone thought everyone else was going to do it. By the time they had realised it had not been done it was too late - they had lost ALL of the leads from the show!
What did you want? Company J gathered all the contact information from their visitors, took it back to the office, input it into a spreadsheet and started the follow-up process. However they did not know what the enquiries were about so came across as disorganised and inefficient. They were a project management/marketing company!
The leads are the most important part of the show - you can spend £1,000s on your stand and staff, but if you do not service the leads properly you may as well put the money in a pile and set it alight.
